South Sudanese refugee Anyier Yuol is the winner of the 2023 Les Murray Award for Refugee Recognition.
Anyier Yuol has packed a lot into her 26 years; she’s played soccer at an international level, has been crowned an international beauty queen and is doing a PhD. She’s also on a mission to change the face of the Australian fashion industry through Miss Sahara, her beauty pageant for young African-Australian women and her modelling agency. Come backstage to meet the woman who grew up in a refugee camp but who is determined to empower young women to be leaders and beauty queens.
